Presentation of Bourranschool
Bourran is a primary school situated on Bordeaux periphery, in Mérignac. This town is one those which compose the Bordeaux Métropole: (urban municipalities of Bordeaux). The Bordeaux Métropole consists in 28 municipalities : the objective is to make Bordeaux a big metropolis. Actually, Bordeaux is the fifth town of France (Classified UNESCO world heritage because of very rich historic architecture), and Merignac the biggest municipality of the Bordeaux Métropole. Mérignac is an industrial pole with a lot of industries (Dassault aviation, Thalès industry...) and the airport of Bordeaux Mérignac.
Bourran is one of the biggest schools of Bordeaux Mérignac with 450 pupils aged 6 – 11 years old, 20 teachers 1 principal. There are 16 classes, and one for children who need a particular teaching (like Trisomic or autist children).
This is a public school, with children coming from many countries: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Russia, Bulgaria, Senegal, and France. So, their French school is, for some of them, the only place where French is spoken.
Most of our pupils belong to low or middle class. Because of the mixed population, working in an ERASMUS project is a great opportunity to communicate with children coming from other countries, (perhaps their own families countries) working on a same project, learning about other cultures. It is the better way to understand they are European people, to accept each other with their differences and built a common project. Studying Europe and the European cultures is one of the main aspects of learning in the national program in France. It’s also a great motivation for them to learn English to communicate with their partners.
Bourran is a special school. Some (4) teachers work also in initial training of teachers. They follow them for one year until they become a teacher in their own classroom.
