The Comprehensive School "Octavia" is set in an area to the north-west of Rome. This territory beginning in the '50s has undergone profound changes and in a short period of time was transformed from agricultural to residential area with high population density.
In recent years, the area has been affected by an intense flow of immigration, so the school welcomes a significant number of foreign pupils from EU and NON EU countries.
The school also welcomes children with “Special Needs”, cooperate with local agencies and medical institution to support disabled pupils and their families and offers a guidance service to families and teachers.
The school has a expertise in developing projects in the area of "Legality and Citizenship" with the aim of teaching to its pupils the "Respect" for oneself, for the enviroment, for the others, in cooperation with different local communities and the municipality of Rome.
The school acts in a European dimension participating in e-Twinning projects, Eramsus+ and previous Comenius
The school welcomes 1150 pupils from the age of three to the age of thirteen.
In the school work about 150 teachers, among these curriculum teachers and supporting teachers.
One year ago the school has conducted a self-evaluation that highlighted the need of innovative teaching methods in order to increase the motivation to study. The school has also participated in projects for the allocation of EU structural funds for the expansion of multimedialspaces . A team for research on innovative teaching methods is already impletenting new methodologies.Pupils are involved in the Europe Code Week .
